About Katie

A little bit about me....hmmm where to begin.... Well, if you read our very first post Jess did quite a good job at describing me. I'm a graphic design student, set to graduate next year. I started actually looking after my health when I was about 17. I used to hate exercise, and healthy food, broccoli and carrots were just not my thing. I was 40 pounds overweight and had the respiratory endurance of an 80 year old smoker. Then my best friend got engaged...Uh oh... I was going to be in a wedding...these pictures were going to hang over peoples fireplaces.... or on their walls...FOREVER. I had hit the proverbial rock bottom. So I started watching what I ate...stopped eating french fries and changed out all the fried food for grilled. I downloaded the myfitnesspal app and started counting calories, and low and behold I dropped 20 pounds. Then a planet fitness gym opened up down the street from my house, at 10 bucks a month I couldn't say no so I joined. I dropped another 10 lbs. Now this didn't happen overnight, it took about a year to lose a total of 35 lbs, but eventually it all came off. Now I love exercise, I mean there are always those days where you don't want to get out of bed, or the thought of picking up a kettle bell makes you want to hurl, but for the most part I love it. My friends are probably my biggest support system. Any time we are all together we end up doing something athletic or make new healthy recipes. We bought our own kayaks last year and take those out all summer, paddling up and down Elkhorn Creek. We love to hike, swim, and recently started practicing Acro which is a type of acrobatics/balancing exercise. I ride horses when I can, and do crossfit every now and then. My normal workout routine varies but I am big fan of HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) workouts. Diet wise I try to stick to paleo or primal eating, however I think whole grains and some dairy can have their place in a diet. All in all, I am a huge fan of balance, a time and a place for everything!
